„The road of life twists and turns and no two directions are ever the same. Yet our lessons come from the journey, not the destination.”
Don Williams Jr. NOVELIST, POET

Turning Roads Cowl uses the same motif as my Turning Roads hat, blanket, showl (a combination of a shawl and cowl), sweater and maybe more… It is a really fun and interesting motif.
The cowl works well for either gender and is completely unique. It could be an elegant addition to your wardrobe. I love mine so much, I made a second! Gather together your favorite sports, fingering or other weight yarn and knit the brioche cowl of your dreams. Be warned – brioche is addictive!

CONSTRUCTION: Turning Roads Cowl is a short tubular cowl. Cast on using a long tail cast on, provisional cast on, or a cast on of your choice. Before grafting the ends together, turn one end 180 degrees to create a mobious twist. Two-color brioche is unique as it knits up into a gorgeous reversible fabric, creating two different cowls. You can make your cowl as long as you wish – small and snug, or longer by knitting more repeats, or until you run out of yarn.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS:
Width: 22.5 cm / 9“
Circumference: 62 cm / 24.5“
Measurements taken from relaxed fabric after joining and cowl laid flat).

YARN:
MC Yarn: Debbie Bliss, (superwash merino, 100gr / 3.52oz – 400m / 438yd),
or use any other fingering weight yarn.
CC Yarn: Tabatha Thomas Studio Hand-dyed yarn (fingering, superwash wool, 4ply merino 100gr/ 3.52oz – 360m / 394yd)

YARN CONSUMPTION: approx. 80gr / 2.8oz of each color, MC and CC. My cowl weighs exactly 160 gr / 5.6oz.
Note that if you use different weight yarn or different needle size, the yardage, weight and dimensions of your cowl may differ from mine.

TOOLS: stitch marker, tapestry needle for weaving in ends, (waste yarn, crochet hook for the Provisional Cast On – optional) and a row counter is recommended, scissors, spare needle for grafting.

NEEDLES: 3.00mm / US 2 ½, 40 cm (16“) circular needle, or size needed to get right gauge.
Note: Needle size is suggested only, you will need to swatch to determine the needle size needed to achieve gauge.

GAUGE: 23 sts x 24 rounds = 10cm / 4“ in two-color brioche stitch.
You can also use yarn in different weights, but just bear in mind that the width and circumference will be different depending on your gauge.
Gauge is not crucial for this project. However, changes might result in a different yardage requirement.
You should always knit your swatch the same way that the pattern is knit. In this case - in the round.

TECHNIQUES REQUIRED: To knit this cowl you need to know how to perform your favorite cast on, two - color brioche, brioche stitch in the round, knitting, purling, (brk1, brp1, sl1yo, k1, p1, kfb, kfbf, SSK, K2tog, Sl1K2togP), bind – off, grafting edges together using Kitchener stitch.

SKILL LEVEL: This pattern is ideal for an adventurous beginner.

And thank you again my dear test knitters. Without you, my testing guys, this pattern isn’t here ….
