Turquerie
Keeping your ears warm, and hair out of your face without the ‘hat hair’ effect, Turquerie headband is a neat and versatile accessory. The timeless turban-like twist is inspired by the recurring eastern influence on fashion.
Urth’s ultrafine, cashmere-like 16 micron Merino feels great worn next to sensitive skin on your face and neck. With a range of 65 hand-dyed shades available, it’s easy to personalise by choosing a favourite flattering shade.
Pattern notes: A slip stitch version of half double crochet is used to create the horizontal ribs. It should be worked rather loosely, otherwise it may be too difficult to insert the hook into when working the next row. If you tend to crochet tightly, you may need to use a bigger hook.
The headband is constructed from 2 rectangular pieces worked flat in a horizontal half double crochet slip stitch rib. They are then sewn together to create interlocking loops.
Materials: 1 skein Urth 16 Worsted, shown in #P50 and #BR20. Each headband requires approx. 40-50g, two headbands can be made out of one 100g skein of 16 Worsted.
Sizes: one size, fits 21’’/53 cm up to 23’’/58.5 cm wearer’s head circumference
Hook: US US 7 to H-8/4.5 to 5.00 mm or size needed to obtain gauge
Notions: Tapestry needle, stitch markers as needed
Skills: A beginner-friendly, easy level pattern.
The techniques involved are: crocheting flat, half double slip stitch, crocheting into back loop only, mattress stitch.
