I designed these gloves, in blazing “commie red,” for my little brother, who spent the last year protesting economic injustice while living on the chilly streets of Seattle. At one point he and his friends occupied a foreclosed and abandoned ex-home, which they named “Turritopsis Nutricula House” after the immortal jellyfish that can revert to earlier stages of its development after growing old. The jellyfish, like the people’s movement, never dies.

These bold Aran-style gloves are knit in a worsted-weight yarn on US 4 needles, a smaller gauge than usual. This makes the gloves sturdy and provides extra-crisp stitch definition. To highlight the cables to their best effect, I highly recommend a tightly-plied, springy merino yarn for this project.
