Turtle Tracks
This pattern was designed for the 2013 Miss Babs Armchair Traveler Knitting Tour’s June trip to the Galapagos, and is now generally available!
I scrimped the shawl out of a 400 yard skein, and had about 2 yards left after binding off. Please take this into account when choosing yarn!
Turtles are one of the many famous animals of the Galapagos Islands, with their differing shell shapes within the same lineage one of the discoveries that helped Charles Darwin develop his version of the theory of evolution. Because of this, Babs REALLY wanted a turtle theme to this trip. When we realized how dificult it would be to depict turtles on a sock, we decided to include a second, turtle-themed pattern as a bonus.
The idea of designing a turtle cable appealed to me, so I played around with some ideas. Then, of course, I needed something to take up the surrounding space, so I de- signed some Turtle Footprint Lace, walking towards the turtle from each side of the shawl. I’m quite pleased with the result, and hope that if you choose to knit this, you will be too!
