Turtles Smartphone and Tablet Cover
Please be sure to check out my blog post with helpful tips about duplicate stitch: https://bridgetpupillodesigns.com/2019/09/14/hedgehogs-part-three-duplicate-stitch/
Little turtles circle your smartphone or tablet on a bright cheery background! An easy stranded knitting project using provisional cast on and three-needle bind-off techniques for a seamless, sturdy, functional cover for your favorite device. A second version of the chart is included with only two colors per row, for those who choose to use the duplicate stitch method to add extra colors after knitting is complete.
This is an intermediate level pattern. Knitters should have experience with provisional cast-on, stranded knitting technique, following color charts, and three needle bind-off technique. However, the construction of the covers is very simple and requires very little finishing work. The smartphone cover is sized to fit most standard phones including iPhones and Androids. The tablet cover is sized to fit most standard tablets including iPads and Samsungs without an additional cover or sleeve.
The gauge is 23 stitches and 28 rows over 4” (10cm) in stranded stockinette stitch, blocked.
This pattern can be made with any DK weight yarn in four colorways. The covers shown here are made in KnitPicks CotLin (70% Tanguis Cotton, 30% Linen; 123 yards/50g). For the smartphone cover OR the tablet cover, you will need 1 ball each of Conch (#25776), Sprout (#24462), Ivy (#26994), and Black (#24468). To make both the smartphone and tablet cover, you will need 2 balls of Conch and 1 ball of all other colors.
You will also need a set of of 16” (40cm) circular needles and DPNs in size US 6 (4.0mm) or whatever size necessary to obtain gauge, and a size E (3.5mm) crochet hook for the provisional cast on. The pattern also calls for one ½” (12mm) decorative button for the smartphone cover, and two ½” (12mm) buttons for the tablet cover.
This pattern includes a full color chart, a two-color chart for optional duplicate stitch, written instructions, and notes on the provisional cast-on and three needle bind-off techniques.
