Tveir fiskar
This sweater is inspired by a poem often sung by Icelandic choirs, about two scarlet fish in iceblue water.
Part of the pattern is based on the Braille alphabet (Icelandic), with the letters ORÐ (word) repeated in white stranded pattern as well as purled sts in the ribbings.
The sweater is knit top-down and follows the Icelandic lopapeysa tradition in its design with a stranded yoke.
Stanza 18 from “Time and water” by Steinn Steinarr:
Two scarlet fish
in deep water.
Dark blue shadows
on a white wall.
A violet cloud
over the mountain peak.
Across the sleeping earth
I’ve borne this white account.
And my words fell
upon the ice-blue water
like a spring night’s rain.
