I had long been wanting a pair of sleeves to wear while riding my bicycle to town in the spring and fall when the weather in the morning is still chilly enough to need something on the arms, but wearing a long-sleeved top would be impractical by late morning and down-right unbearable by mid-afternoon. The question became what lace pattern would look nice, be fun to knit and wouldn’t leave big holes to defeat the purpose of the sleeves. Also, I am not a fine-boned person – translation: I’ve got guns (biceps), so adding bulk was undesirable. This pattern is easily adapted to larger or smaller sizes. If you work an odd number of horizontal Chalice pattern repeats, you will need to cast on two extra stitches for the ribbing and decrease them out before beginning the Chalice pattern. The length is also adjustable, but is designed for all rows of the Chalice pattern to be completed prior to beginning the cuff.

When knitting the second pair in Malabrigo Arroyo, I got nervous that I would run out of yarn before finishing the cuffs, so I subbed in a few yards of leftover sock yarn for a bit of color interest and to insure I would have enough Arroyo for the bind off.
