Chunky boot toppers

Made-to-measure boot toppers that can fit any leg size. An ideal beginner knit.

These chunky boot toppers are designed to be worn underneath wellington boots and add a layer of warmth on a cold winter’s day. The boot toppers are knit in two easy steps - first the cable section is knit, then stitches are picked up from the side of the cable and the rib is completed. The seam is then sewn up.

Materials used: The pattern uses Sirdar’s Highlander Lopi Wool - 70% lopi, 30% acrylic - and is knit on 6mm knitting needles. An alternative chunky wool could be used instead and the pattern can be easily adapted for finer wools such as double-knitting wool.

MATERIALS
2 100g balls of Sirdar Highlander Lopi Wool or other chunky-weight yarn
A pair of 6mm knitting needles and a 5mm knitting needle to use as a cable needle
A tapestry needle

TECHNIQUES
Casting on, Casting off, Knit, Purl and Cable stitches

DIFFICULTY
Medium

If a lighter-weight yarn is used e.g. an aran yarn, then the cable top will be narrower (this could be remedied by adding one stitch to the garter stitch borders either side of the cable).
