Welcome to the Boo-Knits Summer MKAL 2024!

Twist of Fate is a top down, triangular shawl inspired the twists and turns of Camelot legend, choice and outcome, destiny and its path.

In this pattern there is the choice of whether to work it in one colour, two colours or three. Whichever you choose you will need three skeins of fingering weight yarn. Choose wisely and see what fate has in store for you.

Twist of Fate will be released in six clues in July and August
Clue One will be released on the 19th July
Clue Two the 26th
Clue Three the 29th
Clue Four the 2nd August
Clue Five the 5th and
Clue Six the 9th

Each new clue will be released at around 10am UK time and will be added to the previous clue(s) so you have an up-to-date pattern. You might like to check each update as you may not need to print out the entire pattern on each clue release.

As always, we respectfully ask you to keep the first photograph on your project page as the placeholder, that can be copied from the pattern page, so as not to spoil the enjoyment of the mystery for other knitters.

REQUIREMENTS
Size Options: This pattern is written as a one size shawl though it is easily adapted to reduce or enlarge the size in Chart 2. As written – 67” (170cm) wide, 33.5” (85cm) deep before blocking and 85” (216cm) wide, 42” (107cm) deep after. Measurements taken using Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light. Note that measurements will differ depending on yarn, tension, blocking etc and these are therefore given as a guide only.
Yarn Requirements: You will require three skeins of fingering weight yarn around (400m/100g) – three of one colour for the one colour version, two skeins of Yarn A and one of Yarn B for the two-colour version and one of each A, B and C for the three-colour version. This is the perfect shawl for those times when you have two skeins of one colour but they differ due to either dye lot or the nature of hand dyed yarn. Use one of your skeins as a Yarn C and work as a three colour shawl.
Suitable Yarns: Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light, Eden Cottage Yarns Carlisle Fingering, DyeforYarn Cream Silk, DyeforYarn Merino Silk Fingering, DyeforYarn Merino/Silk/Yak, Miss Babs Holston, though any fingering weight yarn of around 380m to 400m/100g would be suitable.
Circular Needles: 3.75mm (US5), 4mm (US6) and 5mm (US8) (bind off only) about 1m in length (longer towards the end of the shawl) or needles to create a pleasing fabric – your fabric should not be too dense and should have good drape.
You will also need: stitch markers, cable needle, needle (for weaving in ends), blocking pins and mats.
Gauge: Gauge is not overly important as this is a shawl. It is better to knit a swatch to ensure that you are happy with your tension and the drape of your fabric remembering that a looser gauge will result in additional yardage requirements. However, the gauge achieved was 23 sts to 4” before blocking and 18 sts to 4” after – measurement taken over stocking stitch using 3.75mm (US5) needles.

An updated and complete pattern will be sent to all purchasers after the MKAL has finished.

Please be aware that when purchasing this prior to 19 July 2024, you will only receive a PreRelease Information Sheet. The actual pattern will be released in clues on and after this date.

You will find it useful to print your pattern on a colour printer, however, coloured pencils could be used to highlight aspects of the pattern.

The pattern is both fully written and charted throughout.

If you like my designs please join us in the Boo Group where you will find a place to discuss my patterns, show off your knitting and hear about KALs and MKALs.

Patterns already set up by KnitCompanion can be purchased, in the KnitCompanion Store, for knitters who like to use KnitCompanion, but prefer to have their charts already set up. However, MKAL patterns are not available in this format until after the MKAL is complete.
