This beanie is a simple construction but has a twist to give it an awesome but very different look from your standard rib. As the name suggests the rib twists around the body of the beanie. The finished product is still very stretchy though.

In working on this design I did do some early prototypes without the roll up brim, have to say the extra knitting is worth it.

With the longer brim you can also wear the Twista as a slouchy style.

Techniques

This pattern uses knit, purl and decreases.

Yarn

This pattern is written based on a 8ply (DK) yarn.

22 stiches x 28 rows (10cm x 10 cm with 4mm needles)

In the two coloured beanie I used (in main picture)

Nista (brim) 20g
Northdale (body) 30g

Both yarns were West Yorkshire Spinners Croft 100% Shetland Wool. 100g ball has a meterage of 225m.

Materials

To get the size of this beanie I used

3.75mm 60cm Circular needles for the brim.
4mm 60cm Circular needles for the rest.

You will then need the normal army of accessories, stitch marker, scissors, tapestry needle and any other handy implement you use in your knitting!!

When decreasing the crown it is your choice what to use when the beanie gets too small for your circular needle. I use two circular needles (look it up it is a great way of decreasing and gives a great finish), or you can use double pointed needles, the choice is yours.

Sizing

This finished beanie is a medium to large adult, but with plenty of stretch in the rib.

The cast on for this pattern is 100 stitches. Each section is ten stitches so you can increase or decrease by ten stitches easily change the size to the fit you want.
