Twisted
I designed a sweater for the Fall 2021 issue using the sport weight of Knit Picks High Desert yarn which had a simple construction (modified drop shoulder with no shaping except for the sleeves) and a complex twisted stitch pattern. I have been anxious to try the worsted weight, so I decided to use the same construction but with simpler twisted stitch patterns.
Even though the patterns are simpler, they are still challenging, particularly the cable crossings in Charts A and C. Note that the Materials section includes two cable needles. Since the cable crossings are mirrored on the right and left of the center panel, they require different techniques.
A few months back, I was scrolling through Instagram and saw a video by Azime Sevim who, I believe, is Turkish. (There was no narration, just musical accompaniment.) I have never seen this technique before which creates a horizontal chain stitch across rows. As soon as I saw this technique, I thought of quite a few ways to use it. This sweater, like the earlier version, has rolled edges at bottom, sleeves, and neckline, and I added chain stitches after the rolled edges to separate it from the pattern stitches. The Special Techniques section below provides instructions and a video.
