The Twisted Sister Tapestry is a knitted bottom-up wall hanging named for its pattern details and its relation to my very first practice knit, which I gave to my sister. The pattern is knitted in one piece, with optional selvedge edges, and optional fringe attached at the end before hanging on a wooden dowel, stick, or similar apparatus.

Finished size will vary depending on yarn/needle choice. The sample blocked to 11.5 in/29 cm long and 10.5 in/26.5 cm wide (without fringe).

Sample knit with Loops & Threads Capri eco cotton in yellow speckle (with swatching) used approximately 116 g/203 yds/185 m. Sample knit with Loops & Threads Capri eco cotton in cream (without swatching) used approximately 65 g/113yds/103m. I recommend a natural fiber such as cotton or wool, for blocking purposes, but the weight and brand is really up to you! Keep in mind your choice will affect the finished size. Please estimate at least 210 yds/192 m to allow for differences.

Choose needles according to yarn weight. For example, I knit the sample in a medium weight yarn, which recommends a US 8/5mm needle. Straight or circular needles can be used, as long as there is enough room for your stitches. If your tension is naturally tight, I recommend going up a needle size for this pattern.

Unless you are not including selvedge edge, I recommend 4 stitch markers for use between stitches, tapestry needle for weaving in ends and attaching to hanging apparatus, and optional crochet hook to aid in adding fringe.

Gauge: 19 sts & 28 rows = 4 in/10 cm in stockinette, unblocked. This pattern is not gauge-specific, but I do recommend a quick swatch to make sure you like the look.

Difficulty: There are some more complex stitches in this pattern, including twists. I’ve included written instructions within the pattern as well as links to helpful tutorials for anyone willing to learn. I would recommend to an intermediate knitter or very adventurous beginner.
