Want to have some handknit, squishy lush poking out of the top of your boots but don’t want to wear a thick chunky sock?

These quick-knit cabled toppers have got you covered.

You will work in the round using the magic loop method on circulars or by using dpns. The pattern is formed using a clear combination of knits, purls and 4 stitch cables. The lower part (which tucks inside your boot is a simple rib followed by the cable section which you can wear straight up (my preference) or folded over your boots. If you fold them over your boot top, remember to put them on inside out so it’s the right side that shows when you fold.

Written in full with handy progress check boxes, so you can keep a visual track of where you are.

I have formatted this pattern in such a way that you should only need to print page 3.

Saving the planet one unprinted page at a time.

Skills used …

  • Long tail cast on.
  • Knit, purl and cable stitches.
  • Increasing and decreasing.

You will need the following …

Aran ~ 90g (a worsted would work for lighter weight toppers)

I would recommend a lighter solid or tonal so your cables show.

  • 4mm (US 6) and 4.5mm (US7) 32 inch (80 cm) circulars.
  • Cable needle.
  • Tapestry needle (the sewing those dreaded ends in).

(Or size required to obtain gauge).

Gauge

4mm : 16 stitches and 12 rows (2 inch / 5 cm) 2x2 knit and purl rib.

The stitch pattern allows for plenty of stretch so don’y panic if you think it’s looking a little smaller than you’d expect to start with.

Blocking ~ Ssshhhh don’t tell anyone, these won’t really need blocking.

I can’t wait to see your toppers so please do be sure to start a project page or tag me on Instagram and Facebook (#twistedtoppers @beanieboat).

Follow me (@beanieboat) on Instagram and Facebook for updates on future patterns, test-knits and giveaways from my little floating shop. Yes, I said floating … it’s on a narrowboat :)

If you like the look of this pattern it would be a huge help to me if you would give it a like as I have an overflowing notebook of ideas and this helps me understand what to work on next. Your support of my little dream is so appreciated. Every ‘like’ helps and it’s a known fact I do a tiny happy dance each time I get a notification. I am a terrible dancer!
