Two Loop Scrunchie
This scrunchie is a little more substantial than many of the other patterns I’ve seen because the addition of a second row of ruffle gives it loft.
This pattern can use any gauge of yarn, and is easy to give a unique character by doing things such as adding picots or using a second color of yarn for the final round for a nice edge detail. You could even use beads as embellishment. Choose your hook based on your yarn gauge, going a size or two smaller than the common size for that gauge. In the green one used in the example, I used aran-weight yarn and a G hook and I tend to crochet tightly.
Supplies needed:
Fabric covered hair band
Leftover yarn
Hook matched to yarn gauge
Row 1: SC around the hair band. Push the stitches against one another so that they cover the band thoroughly, but not so tightly that they will be difficult to work.
Each row after the first, you will be going around the band twice per row.
Row 2: Chain 3 and DC twice in each back loop around the band for your first time around, then slip stitch to the starting chain and continue around the band a second time using the remaining loop on each row 1 SC. Slip stitch to the start, forming an X.
Row 3/4: For narrow gauges of yarn and small hooks or if you want to longer ruffle, do a second round of DC, using both loops in each stitch and slip stitching to the starting chain before starting the second time around the band. For the last row, SC in each stitch around for a smooth edge or add a picot or bead every few stitches for a more interesting look.
