Pattern Description from Victorian Lace Today: “In the course of a rummage in an antique shop, I came upon a truly magnificent handspun shawl constructed in the Shetland manner and measuring about six feet by four feet. At first glance it looked incredibly complicated, but on closer examination it was shown to consist of different patterns in horizontal strips, with an all-round border added on afterwards. I decided to design a sampler shawl in order to display some of the work of Jane Gaugain and Frances Lambert, using their methods of construction.”
