STITCH GUIDE
hdc – half double crochet, sl st – slip stitch, st(s) – stitch(es),
SPECIAL STITCHES
fhdc- foundation half double crochet
Chain 3 (counts as first fhdc). Yarn over and insert hook in 3rd chain from hook. Yarn over and pull up loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through 1 loop creating a chain, (this is an important step but easy to forget). Yarn over again and pull through all three loops on hook. This completes the second fhdc (remember your first ch3 counted as the first fdc). To stitch the next fhdc, yarn over and insert the hook into the chain made in the 2nd fhdc and repeat from
Hdc/or sc in the third loop
Same as a regular half double crochet/or single crochet, except hdc/ or sc will be placed in the back horizontal bar or third loop. Here is a great video tutorial by Moogly on how to make the stitch. I also used a seamless method by My Hobby is Crochet (I used Version II though you can choose whichever version you prefer). Seamless methods for working in the round are towards the bottom of the post.
NOTES
• I maintained loose tension throughout this design for a lofty look and feel. Tighter tension will make the scarf less pliable.
• Gauge is not important with this project, however your scarf may vary in size. After Row 1, make sure the circumference of the fhdc row will be long enough for you to wrap around your neck twice comfortably.
