Twyst Shawlette is your go-to pattern for one skein (200 yards or more per 100g skein) of worsted/DK/sport/fingering weight yarn.

Perfect for handspun, variegated, “why-did-I-buy-only-one-skein-of-this?” and is easily adjustable ~ knit until you run out of yarn!

Yarn
Approximately 200 yds (182.88 m) of 100g skein minimum Worsted, DK, Sport or Fingering weight yarn

I was able to knit a lovely 57” x 15.5” shawlette from one skein of Malabrigo Caracol (pictured here in white with speckles). You’ll have to aggressively block this out to get a larger size.

Needles
Choose the needle size that gives you the best drape for your yarn choice. Recommend 32” 81.28 cm circulars to accommodate stitches.

Tapestry Needle

This pattern should be worked loosely which helps you in blocking a longer and wider shawlette. So, adjust your needle size to whatever gives you a comfortable knitting experience!

Here’s a starting point:

• Worsted: US 9 (5.5 mm)
• DK: US 8 (5.0 mm)
• Sport: US 7 (4.5 mm)
• Fingering: US 6 (4.0 mm)

Gauge
Gauge is not crucial in this pattern as long as you like the fabric you are getting. Just keep in mind that a big difference in gauge will affect the amount of yarn you’ll use.

The gray/red-purple shawlette was knit with about 225 yds (205.7 m) madelinetosh Tosh DK in colorway Black Velvet and measures 51” (129.54 cm) tip to tip; 12” (30.48 cm) at deepest point

The purple/blue/green shawlette was knit with 193.3 yards (176.8 m) Dream in Color Classy with Cashmere in colorway Mermaid Shoes and measures 51” (129.54 cm) tip to tip; 12” (30.48 cm) at deepest point

The black and white speckled shawlette was knit with 78 yards (71.32 m) Malabrigo Caracol in colorway Salpicado and measures 57” (144.78 cm) tip to tip; 15.5” (39.37 cm) at deepest point

The red, blue, green Noro shawlette was knit with 328 yards (299.92 m) Noro Silk Garden Sock in colorway 304S and measures 60” (152.4 cm) tip to tip; 15.25” (38.74 cm) at deepest point
