Construction
The Txapel Beret is worked from the top down. It starts with a little i-cord, and then grows in the round, alternating garter stitch by knitting and purling across, with chains of slipped stitches next to where increases are made to shape the beret. Decorative long stitches are worked along every other slip-stitch chain, which include an optional bobble before the turn of the beret. Then, the bottom is shaped with decreases. Finally a casing or hollow hem is worked in reverse stockinette stitch, first in the round, then flat to leave an opening to introduce and adjust an elastic band, for comfortable wear. Txapel means “beret” in Basque: “Txapela buruan eta ibili munduan!”

Construcción
La boina Txapel se trabaja de arriba a abajo. Se empieza con un pequeño cordón o i-cord, y va creciendo en circular, alternando punto bobo con cadenetas de puntos deslizados junto a las que se hacen los aumentos que le dan forma a la boina. En una de cada dos cadenetas se trabajan unos puntos largos decorativos, que además incluyen un bodoque opcional antes del giro de la boina. A la parte inferior se le da forma con disminuciones. Finalmente se trabaja un dobladillo en punto jersey revés, primero en circular y después en plano para dejar una pequeña apertura en el caso de que se quiera colocar una cinta elástica en su interior para un ajuste perfecto. Txapel significa boina en Euskera… “Txapela buruan eta ibili munduan!”
