Tylö cardigan
This cozy cardigan is designed to be worn whenever you feel like relaxing. It is intended to be generous, warming and comforting. Almost like a hug<3.
I always try to work a new design before going on holidays. It is such a treat taking photos in a new environment!
This year we couldn’t go so far, but we were happy just to leave for a few days:) Tylö is the most lovely place on the Swedish west-coast, and with dramatic weather and 14 degrees in the water as well as in the air it was cold, but fabulous! And, my new cardigan was just perfect for the weather.
Design
The cardigan features dropped shoulders, V-neck, a large, buttoned collar, pockets, a belt, wide, elbow length sleeves, a generous fit.
Construction
The cardigan is worked top-down.
Apart from setting in the pockets the construction is seam-less.
You start work from the upper back, worked flat, and top-down to underarms. Shoulders are shaped using simple short-rows.
Fronts are worked from picked-up sts along the shoulders.
At underarms upper fronts and back are joined, and continued in one piece.
Sleeves are worked in-the-round from picked-up sts along the armhole-openings.
The button-bands are worked from picked-up sts along the fronts.
The collar is worked from picked-up sts along the V-neck.
(you might work this as a classic V-neck, working a regular edge, instead of the generous collar).
SizesFinished bust circumference, after washing/blocking, and worked at gauge: 91/99/107/115/123/131/139/147 cm = 36/39/42/45/48.5/51.5/54.5/58” Sample is worked in size 2 with 18 cm/7” of positive ease. Recommended ease = 10 – 20 cm/4 – 8”.
Materials
Yarn: I recommend any worsted weight yarn that knits up to gauge. I used “Ullgarn Extra 2” from Yllet to work the cardigan. This worsted weigh yarn comes in skeins of 100 gr/3.53 oz and 200 m/218 yards. Of this specific yarn you will need approximately 1000/1150/1300/1400/1500/1600/1750/1850 m = 1090/1253/1417/1526/1635/1744/1907/2016 yards. Yardage might vary from one yarn to another, as well as from one knitter to another. Needles: needle size 4 mm/US6, for the body, collar and sleeves.
Needle size 3.5 mm/US4 for the cuffs, and the belt
Notions: 4 removable stitch-markers, separate holders, buttons 22 mm/0.9” across.
Gauge
20 sts/26 rows in stitch-pattern should measure = 10x10cm/4x4”.
The pattern
The stitch-pattern is charted, as well as written out row-by-row.
Measurements are given in cm’s as well as in inches.
All necessary stitch-counts are given.
There is a schematic.
Short-row technique is explained.
There are links to the cast-on methods.
Knitting skills: intermediate.
You should be familiar with picking up sts, work increases, work short-rows.
