Ugendo utilizes 2 cable patterns and incorporates the crown decreases into both stitch patterns to create a lovely slouchy hat that’s perfect for keeping you warm and stylish on a crisp autumn day. A folded brim adds some extra warmth and can be worked either by provisional cast on or with a long tail cast on and some simple seaming when the rest of the hat is complete. This is a great project for that skein of luxury yarn hiding in your stash or begging to come home with you!

One size, fits approximately 21-23” circumference. This hat is meant to be a little slouchy, but if you’re worried about the size, you might want to try going down a needle size.

Gauge swatch should be knit in the round.

Materials: 1 16” circular needle and 1 set of DPNs in size US 5/3.75mm, or size to get preferred gauge
Stitch markers
Sewing needle for weaving in ends
2 cable needles

Optional Materials: crochet hook for provisional cast on
Waste yarn for provisional cast on
1 additional 16” circular needle for turning brim hem (optional--can also use DPNs to turn the hem)

Sample shown used most of 1 skein of Kunlun in color Autumn Leaves, which is a Wild Iris from Miss Babs. If this color is sold out when you look for it, any solid, semi-solid, or gently variegated color will work.

Cable patterns are charted. Crown decreases are written.

I’m a huge fan of the manga Bleach. This pattern was named after the Ugendo Quarters, the sometime residence for the captain of 13th company.
