Ugly Christmas Sweater Hat #2 ~ Gnome Edition ~
This is the 2nd in Collection #1 of Ugly Christmas Sweater Hats. I chose the colors for my hat from the colors I thought the recipient would like. Just remember, it IS an Ugly Christmas Sweater hat so the colors are fun and friendly. Enjoy using the colors you have on hand.
Even though it looks like a knit hat, it is crocheted using the Wainscoat/Knit Stitch. This is the perfect stitch for hats with patterns in them. The stitches line up so well.
I don’t use a gauge for the pattern. I measure the brim so it is about 1” - 2” short of the circumference of the recipients head. (The ribbing will stretch.) If the recipient isn’t available, I have included a chart of the common measurements for head circumferences.
If you are afraid the ribbing will stretch out to much, Use an E of F hook for your ribbing. This will keep the ribbing tighter.
All of the colors I used were scraps I had available.
Suggestion … if you would like a more color coordinated background for the Gnomes, try one of the yarn cakes available. I have used them on several hats and the end result can be stunning.
