Ugly Hanukkah Knit
This is a cozy colorwork sweater worked in panels for the body and seamed before adding sleeves and a collar by picking up the stitches. The color work is done using intarsia and made “ugly” with the clever use of snaps and standalone knitted pieces.
You have the option of knitting intarsia, intarsia + stranded colorwork, or adding the image after you finish using duplicate stitch.
There is one main color and 2 or 3 contrasting colors (menorah, candles and flames. I used the same color for the menorah and flames!).
For this sweater I knit with Lion Brand’s Wool Ease yarn. I used Riverside for my main color and Arrowwood and Stillwater for my contrasting colors.
Each size will only require one ball of each contrasting color (even if you are only using 2 contrasting colors). You only need a small amount of yarn for the colorwork, so feel free to play around and use up scraps in your design, especially if you have a lot of different colors and want to make each candle a different scrap color!
You can use any color and any yarn that gets you the correct gauge!
You will need approx 975(1175, 1275, 1300, 1325)(1350, 1375, 1400, 1425) yds. These are incredibly loose approximations as you can decide to lengthen or shorten the body and depending on the sleeve you choose you may use significantly more or less yarn. Therefore I would recommend buying yarn that you know you can get more of if needed, or planning to change up the colors on the sleeves or collar if you run out of the main color!
