Uinta Mittens
The Uinta Mittens were created for quarter 4 (Hands) of the Head 2 Toe with Kino and Jo knitalong (KAL), a year-long event with Kino Knits and Jesie Ostermiller. Throughout 2022, knit a pattern in specific categories by either designer for the chance to win prizes! Visit the KAL FAQ page for more information and tag your entries on social media with #Head2ToeKAL.
The Uinta mittens (pronounced yoo-IN-tə) are inspired by a beautiful Utah mountain range. I like to think of that little stripe of colorwork above the ribbing as being the tree line, the stripes above that are the mountains, and the sunny stripes at the fingers are the gorgeous sunrise. Can you see it?
These mitt(en)s are worked from the cuff up, incorporating a traditional thumb gusset. The hand is finished after separating the thumb stitches. Thumb stitches are then put back on the needles and worked to completion.
