A lot of simple patterns exist that make lovely, if light, DK garments for kids. This one, though, boasts both tenderness and heft. Using a half-brioche (or half-fisherman’s rib) stitch, where one row is knit and another is worked in a 1 x 1 rib with the knit stitches worked as K1B (Knit 1 Below), you get a thick, cushy, deep fabric that envelops the child in softness and warmth. Collar is worked all in one go; the shawl collar is shaped with wrapped short rows. Looks fantastic in any style of yarn whatsoever.
