When my dear friend Elena who grew up in Ukraine along with her husband Igor showed me her creation, I knew we had to put this into pattern form and post on Ravelry.

We are sending all the proceeds from this hat to the Ukrainian Charity, Nova Ukraine

The Ukraine Strong hat features the Ukrainian flag colors, yellow for wheat fields and blue for the sky, along with the Ukrainian Trident, the national symbol. It is worked flat and seamed along the side. The pattern is written for both DK and Worsted weight yarns.

DK WEIGHT VERSION

Size – Adult medium
Dimensions – 18”/ 46 cm circumference, 8-9” /20.5-23cm height
Yarn -DK weight in three colors. Ukrainian Flag A = Yellow (25 g), B=Blue (35 g) C=Black (10 g)
Needles - US 6 (4mm) and 7 (4.5mm) or size needed to obtain correct gauge.
Notions - 2 st markers (m), tapestry needle.
Gauge - 20 sts = 4”/10 cm in st st.

WORSTED WEIGHT VERSION

Size – Adult medium
Dimensions – 18 ¼”/46.5 cm circumference, 8-9”/ 20.5-23 cm height
Yarn -Worsted weight in three colors. Ukrainian Flag A = Yellow (20 g), B=Blue (30 g) C=Black (7 g)
Needles - US 7 (4.5mm) and 8 (5mm) or size needed to obtain correct gauge.
Notions - 2 st markers (m), tapestry needle.
Gauge - 18 sts = 4” in st st.
