The ceiling of the Ulu Cami Mosque in Metalya inspired this top-down woman’s fair isle sweater. The rougher texture of the brick along with the smoother spiral of the stone makes an interesting contrast. And the dome shape lends itself to translation into a top-down sweater. I seriously considered continuing the collar purl pattern throughout the sweater because I liked how it mimicked the intermingled cream and brick of the dome. However, it was important to make the project less stressful to knit. With fair isle, it is certainly easier to knit around and around and around rather than purl. And it still has the look of the Ulu Cami dome so better to keep the ease of knitting instead of purling. Enjoy!

Yarn:
A very affordable yarn, the Webs brand, Valley Yarns Colrain works well for the smoother parts of the pattern. To add a bit rougher texture for the bricks, I used a basic wool for the cream color.
