Ulverstone Stole
Hello everyone!
I’m pleased to share this pattern with you. I enjoyed writing this pattern (I can tell you doing the maths for the stitches were so much better than doing my maths homework!)
Please feel free to PM me if you are not clear with any instructions or if I made a boo boo somewhere.
Also, don’t be afraid if you’ve never done a knitted on edging before. I’ve included diagrams and (hopefully), clear instructions on how to do so. This is also my first knitted on edging so if I can do it, so can you!
When blocking, the stole took up the entire single mattress. That is approximately 185cm by 85cm.
The shawl in the picture was knitted with 4.5mm needles. This creates a very airy texture. If you prefer
a less airy stockinette pattern, use smaller needles (3.5mm to 4mm).
Gauge is not important for this project. If you use a smaller needle, you will get a slightly smaller stole. Needle sizes above 4.5mm for fingering (4ply or sock weight yarns) are not recommended.
MATERIALS
– 4.5mm/ US#7 (OR 3.5mm to 4mm, US#4-6 for smaller shawl) circular needles, 100cm or longer
– (Optional) Another circular needle the same size as the one above but shorter (around 50cm long or straight needles are fine)
– 4.5mm crochet hook
– Waste yarn
– Removable stitch markers (at least 5 but ideally about 20 pieces)
YARN
Malabrigo Sock yarn (2 skeins) 440yds/ 400m per 100g skein Featured stole in Abril Colourway.
