Unbelievably Simple Baby Hat
I’ve spent the last 3 weeks volunteer teaching knitting in a local middle school. Once the students completed their garter stitch squares they wanted something else to work on so I designed this hat.
This hat is perfect as a first pattern. Being done completely in garter stitch all they need to know is a cast on, knit and bind off.
This pattern is NOT written in standard abreviations; it is written paragraph style for simplicity for the novice knitter.
I’ve not included gauge information as small variances will still work and this pattern is designed to get them making something, not frustrate them with the technical side of things. I have included the finished size though so that huge differences can be caught early.
Working with suggested needles to specified size used less than a 50 gm ball of worsted weight acrylic.
All 3 Finishing options are included.
ETA: There have been a couple comments about the hat being larger than expected. The new knitters I’m working with tend to knit very very tightly so it’s designed to accomodate them, adjusting the size is very simple, if it’s too high make a larger brim (or cast on 20 stitches instead) and too big around knit fewer rows.
