A new addition to the bear family! Uncle Stu is a great big polar bear from the great white north. Like nephew Louie, Stu is knit in the round from the top down without seaming. He is felted in a washing machine, then filled with fiberfill. His face is simple embroidery with optional safety eyes. Since Uncle Stu is felted, he is ultra-durable and will last a lifetime (or two or three)!

The sweater shown in the last photo is a separate pattern. It can be purchased at a discount in an ebook along with Uncle Stu.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

Needles: Size US10.5 circular needles, Size US10.5 double pointed needles to work in the round

Notions: fiberfill, scissors, tapestry needle, stitch markers, black embroidery thread and needle, 10mm safety eyes (optional), and washing machine for felting

Yarn: Knit Picks Bare Cadena
5 Skeins
(approximately 500 yards)

A Note on Yarn Choices: The sample is done with the bulky weight wool/ alpaca blend, Knit Picks Bare Cadena. This makes for a thick soft felt. Other choices that would work nicely include Knit Picks Bare Wool of the Andes Bulky, or 2 strands of Knit Picks Bare Wool of the Andes Worsted. Paton’s also has wool yarns that felt well: 2 strands of Paton’s Classic Wool Worsted (Color-Aran), or Paton’s Classic Wool Roving (Color-Aran). Note that the Paton’s roving is aran weight and will make a slightly smaller bear.
