Undulation (ən-jə-ˈlā-shən)
A rising and falling in waves

Undulation is a crescent- shaped one-skein shawl that features a slowly growing lace pattern on the right border. The lace grows to cover the whole bottom of the shawl and a simple picot bind-off is used as a finishing touch.

The shawl is worked from the neck down. The pattern is worked in stockinette stitch, but is easily modified to a garter stitch version if you don’t want to purl.

Yarn
100g Merino singles (366m/100g) or other fingering-weight yarn. Sample shawl was knitted with Cosmic Strings merino singles in colorway Green Gables.

Needle
4 mm(US size 6) 100 cm circular needle (or size needed to obtain gauge)

Gauge
22 sts and 26 rows = 10 cm/4” in stockinette st (after blocking). Exact gauge is not required but differences in gauge will affect the finished size of the shawl and yarn usage.

145 cm x 37 cm (57” x 14,5”) after blocking

A darning needle (scrap yarn and crochet hook optional, if you use a provisional cast-on method.

Undulation (suom: aaltoilu, lainehdinta) on sirpin muotoinen huivi, jonka toisessa reunassa toistuu hitaasti kasvava ja aaltoileva pitsikuvio. Kuvio laajenee huivin alareunassa koko leveydelle, ja kokonaisuuden kruunaa kaunis nirkkopäättely.

Huivi aloitetaan niskasta ja sitä työstetään alhaalta ylöspäin. Halutessaan suuremman huivin, voi mallikertojen toistoja lisätä tai kasvattaa alareunan pitsin korkeutta.

Huivi neulotaan sileällä neuleella, mutta se on halutessaan helposti muokattavissa ainaoikein- neuleeksi.

Lanka
100g fingering-vahvuista lankaa (n. 400m/100g). Mallihuivissa käytetty Cosmic Stringsin merino singlea (366m/100g) värissä Green Gables.

Puikot
4 mm 100 cm pyöröpuikot (tai käsialan mukaan)

Tiheys
22 s ja 26 krs = 10 cm. Ei ole oleellista saada täsmälleen oikeaa tiheyttä mutta suuri ero tiheydessä voi vaikuttaa lopullisen huivin kokoon.
