Unfold your wings … and fly!

It’s June and the world is filled with caterpillars and butterflies, and all sorts who are literally or metaphorically breaking their cocoons…. My initial concept for this project emerged from sketchy images of wings unfolding and curving around your body and became the basis for the structure of this wrap. It’s a relatively quick knit on big needles and is the softest lightest loveliest feather of a shawl….throw it around your bare shoulders in the summer or wrap it around and around your neck in the winter….

Gauge: gauge doesn’t really matter for this shawl, and is difficult to calculate with the various stitch patterns.

Materials:
Yarn A: 1 skein of Looped Mohair worsted weight yarn such as Luigi’s Locks from Yellow Dog Farm in Vermont (+/- 225 yds, 4 oz in 78% Mohair, 13% Merino, 9% Nylon).
plus
Yarn B: 1 skein of Brushed Mohair worsted weight yarn such as Geraldine’s Tresses from Yellow Dog Farm in Vermont (+/- 225 yds, 4 oz in 78% Mohair, 13% Merino, 9% Nylon)

You can substitute yarn, and if so, will ideally want there to be some difference in texture. Contrasting colors could also work, but will look very different. The soft and fluffy mohair yarns used add volume and a lot of halo to this project

Other materials needed:
• Size 13 circular needle (32” length)
• Crochet hook for picking up stitches (if desired)
• Other materials needed are a tapestry needle and removable jumbo stitch markers

Overview:
You will begin by making 2 identical triangular pieces and then will join them together with lace-stitch “connective tissue”, picking up stitches on each side as you go. This sounds more complicated than it is, so be brave!
