Starting with i-cord cast on the body of the cowl is knitted in the round from the top down in Garter stitch, with subtle increases providing flare towards the bottom. The eyelet edging is knitted sideways onto the live stitches at the bottom, using a provisional cast-on, before grafting the two ends of the edging together to finish.
