ENGLISH PATTERN

This pattern came through complete improvisation when I spent Midsummer in a cottage with a ball of Biches et Buches Le Sock Yarn and a pair of circular needles. I thought about what makes my favourite socks so good that I keep using them. It came down to simplicity, comfort and the right length.

UNI means “dream” in Finnish, “plain” in French and I think it’s the most fitting name for these unisex, universal simple socks.

UNI socks are minimalistic, easy to knit socks for anyone. They feature a rolled edge instead of ribbing so they won’t feel tight but will still stay up. Plus, the rolled edge is a nice detail. The ankle and foot sections are worked in plain stockinette. The heel is knitted following the “boomerang heel” method, so this part is also beginner-friendly. Even though they are knitted with thin needles, they are so simple that they are surprisingly quick to complete.

All lengths can be customised but keep in mind that this will affect the yardage.

Sizes: 1 (2) 3 (4) 5

Finished foot circumference: 18 (20) 22 (24) 26 cm / 7 (7.75) 8.5 (9.5) 10.25”

Ankle length (from top to beginning of heel): 12.5 cm / 5” for all sizes (customisable)

Note: “Ankle length” was measured while the rolled edge laid flat. Once dried, the rolled edge will naturally curl up approx 1 cm / 0.45”.

Recommended ease: -1 / +0.5 cm / -0.45 /+0.25”

Photographed sample is shown in size 3. Model wears a men shoe size EUR 43 / US 8.5.
