Unicorn Mittens
Do you believe in Unicorns?
Medieval Europeans did! In tales of faraway lands and magical beasts, Unicorns were a favorite topic for kings, queens, lords, and ladies. They even thought that Unicorn horns had special healing powers. In fact until as late as the 1700s, wealthy rulers across Europe would buy Unicorn horns. or what they believed to be Unicorn horns (Narwhale tusks anyone?) considering them to be magic.
Sadly Unicorns are no longer to be found but we can still invoke their magic by knitting them on mittens! These Unicorn horns may not cure diseases but they can bring a smile and that can be healing too. Are you a knitter looking for that perfect gift for that Unicorn loving friend? You know who I’m talking about. Or maybe you know a knitter who would love a truly unique pattern added to their collection… because all knitters have a specially curated collection!
This Unicorn mitten knitting pattern is recommended for intermediate knitters familiar with reading charts and stranded colorwork. The pattern is on a downloadable PDF digital file available immediately upon payment and includes instructions and easy to follow design charts. Although there seems to be an unwritten rule that Unicorns are white, I see no reason why that can’t be any color (even though I knit them in white)
You can knit these mittens in any two contrasting colors in the yarn of your choice. The mittens pictured were knit using sock / fingering weight and US size 1 / 2.25mm needles for a women’s - medium size. You could easily knit a larger mitten using larger needles or adjust to a smaller mitten using smaller needles.
Mittens are fun and easy to knit up in a short time and make excellent custom gifts. And people will definitely remember these made-by-you Unicorn mittens. I bet you will be making several pairs!
