United We Stand
While I am glad that politics is boring once again in the US, we have a long way to go before we bring this country together. Perhaps this top can become a statement to all of our representatives in congress and senators that we can’t do it alone.
United We Stand is a top down, in the round t-shirt with a patriotic theme. The textured star on the yoke is charted only, while the rest of the shirt is written instructions only. Sleeves are bound off and the body is rejoined to knit the stripes.
Sizes: S (32), M (36), L (40), XL (44)
Materials: Three colors of fingering yarn are recommended, but please swatch for gauge. The sample is knit with Knit One Crochet Too Pediwick (which is discontinued). A fine substitute yarn would be Universal Yarn’s Bamboo Pop. A cotton blend would also work well for this lightweight warm weather top.

Needle size:
US3 (3.25 mm) 40” circular needle (or size needed to obtain gauge)
US 2 (2.5 mm) 16” circular needle
You may want to have various lengths of cables on your circular needle because the garment starts small at the collar, grows through the yoke to accommodate the sleeves and then settles into the bust size for the remainder of the body after the sleeves are bound off.
Gauge: 24 x 35 stitches/rows per 4 inches
Stitch Patterns:
Stockinette: Knit all rounds
Twisted Rib: (K1tbl, P1) around
3x3 Rib: (K3, P3) around
Note about Colorwork:
Be careful to keep floats evenly spaced on the back of the work. This can be achieved by holding both colors on the working hand (right for English, left for continental) and moving the stitches along the right hand needle with each color change. Twisting is not necessary because only three stitches of each color are knitted in the striped section.
