Whether you crochet, Tunisian crochet, or knit, the Universal Pants pattern adapts to your vision—allowing you to create anything from fitted joggers to wide-leg trousers or even shorts, all from the same base pattern.

Written for panel construction, this pattern gives you the flexibility to work bottom-up or top-down while incorporating short rows for shaping. The “Mae to Measure” system ensures a fully customizable fit, letting you adjust waistband height, rise depth, ease, inseam length, knee and ankle widths, and more. You can craft anything from sleek, tailored pants to flowy bell-bottoms—all in your preferred stitch.

Since increases, decreases, and short rows are key to achieving the best fit, selecting a stitch that accommodates shaping is essential, especially for curved fits. Short rows are optional, but they’re highly recommended for added comfort and contouring.

A Mae to Measure pattern is an interactive, made-to-measure pattern that calculates the number of stitches, rows, and yardage for a pattern. The benefit of a Mae to Measure pattern is that it makes your pattern size inclusive to virtually any body size (theoretically, it should even work for an infant!) This is done by allowing the user to type in their body’s measurements onto your pattern. Then, in the background, the pattern will calculate all the math within the pattern to fit the person perfectly.
