University scarves most often have long stripes of different colours, taken from a particular university’s crest or colour scheme. These long vertical stripes are awkward to knit with normal scarf construction, unless you turn the scarf on its side to knit.

This simple pattern is all about creating an elegant, simple, perfect scarf. The elegance is created by the beautiful squishy icord edge which creates the ‘finished’ look.

This scarf pattern features two colours; a background colour and a long stripe in the centre. It is worked entirely with knit stitches for easy knitting. But because of the unusual length-ways long rows, it can appear as though it’s more complex.

The pattern is written so that you use around 200g for the background and 50g for the stripe in the centre (250g of dk yarn in total). But if you want to adapt the pattern for a university with different numbers of stripes you can simply adjust your colours accordingly.
