Untitled 2102
Recycled, knitted, cotton-shirt-yarn table mat, in the shape of a square with concave and convex sides. The yarn-cutting method, described in the pattern, produces rounded teddy-ears of fabric which enhance the texture. For a conventional version, the mat can be blocked to a square. The shape is a simple artwork produced by blocking.
Requirements
• Rag-yarn: Approx 50yd/46m of pure cotton shirt-weight rag yarn, cut into bias strips 0.25in/0.75cm to 3/8in/1cm wide. (Equivalent to nearly half of the usable fabric in a man’s large shirt). For a colour effect similar to the project sample, choose a bright, multi-coloured shirt.
• Needles: - metric 6mm; UK and Canadian size 4; US size 10 (or size to suit your rag-yarn after swatching).
• Sewing notions to join strips of yarn when cutting, and for repairing broken yarn while knitting.
• Tapestry needle with eye large enough for yarn
The pattern contains full instructions on creating the rag yarn, knitting and blocking.
