When I started the Master Hand Knitting program, managed by The Knitting Guild Association (TKGA) in 2010, I also started gathering a collection of back issues of Cast On magazine. While looking through the old magazines a few months ago, I was intrigued by Carolyn Vance’s Pumpkin Spice Mittens (Feb-Apr 2008). The mittens were done using the Swedish Tvåändsstickning technique that is known in the US as twined or two-end knitting. Now that I live in Texas, I don’t often need the heavy fabric that this method produces, but I wanted to use the traditional stitch patterns for a pair of socks that I call “Untwined”.

This pattern is free to members of The Knitting Guild Association. For membership information, go to www.TKGA.org.
