I love Scheepjes Whirls and also love to knit on straght needles, so was looking for a knitting pattern that would enable me to make the most of the lovely colour gradients available.

This is the result. The back and fronts of the sweater are knit flat from the bottom up to the shoulders. The sleeves are then knit from the shoulders down to the wrists and the remaining yarn is used to make either a scarf or a cowl to wrap around the neck - thus the title for this design, Up Down Whirl Around.

The sweater is designed to be oversized with lots of positive ease and the nature of the yarn and stitches used gives a beautiful drape.

2 Matching Whirls or Woolly Whirls will make the Sweaters and either Scarf or Cowl for sizes XS/S, M/L and XL/2XL. Please note that sizes 3XL/4XL and 5XL havent yet been tested but my best estimate is that 2 whirls will be ‘just’ enough to make the sweaters for these sizes but you may need a matching Whirlette to finish off the sleeves of the largest size and you will need an additional Whirlette if you want to make the Scarf or Cowl.

The pattern includes detailed instructions, tips and a separate photo tutorial.
