This is a pattern for an easy stockinette based hat, using wrapped slipped stitches to form a letter panel on the front. The pattern is written for one size only – to fit an average adult woman, but the UP-panel can be placed on any size stockinette based accessory or garment.

A photo tutorial of how to work the wrapped stitches is included in the pattern as well as a link to a short video.

I had the pleasure of meeting a lovely family who raise a daughter with Down Syndrome. They founded an organization aiming to help such children be accepted and integrated in the society, named “UP with Down Foundation”. They have a yarn shop and offer limited quantities of beautiful hand-dyed yarns on several different bases. The sample hat uses their MerinoMaxi 100% wool base, 120m per 100g.
