The bonnet is worked in the round from lower edge to top of head, with steek at the front opening. After the steek has been cut, the center piece is worked in rows and at the same time gradually joined to the side pieces. The bonnet can also be worked in rows; the version worked in flat is included in the pattern.

The stylized bird on the bonnet Uppländsk Fågelkrans is inspired by a stencil-made motif from the vaulted ceilings of Sånga church in Uppland, Sweden.

Several birds are flying up there amongst saints, biblical scenes, stylized flowers and climbing vines. Some birds perch on top of a vine, looking like flowers on stems. Similar stencile-made birds painted in black or ferric-oxide red can be found in several Uplandic medieval churches.

The pattern has two sizes: young girls and ladies. The larger size is made with a border at the lower edge.

Uppländsk Fågelkrans means Bird Wreath from Uppland in swedish.
