If Batman wanted to blend in at a construction site while staying in touch with his sensitive side, this would be his go-to garment. For the rest of us, it’s the perfect accessory for staying warm and visible when we’re walking in gloomy weather (and magnetic bike reflectors make a great fastener). The choice of colours used here is the yarny version of a hi-vis jacket: grey, neon yellow and black “piping”.

Each short row triangle of contrast colour takes approximately 9g of fingering-weight yarn and prevents colour pooling, making this pattern ideal for using mini-skeins and strongly variegated yarns.

Design Notes

The shawl has a semi-circular construction, working round from the left side to the right (the stitch count remains consistent for the main body of the shawl, before picking up along the bottom edge). It is started, edged and finished all the way around with an i-cord, which adds to the warmth. The triangles use German Short Rows for shaping, and the bands inbetween have a simple chevron lace repeat.

Both are easy to pick up and memorise.

The pattern has been tech edited by Amelia Hodsdon and test knitted
