The Urban Ridge Aran Cowl is made using two easy stitch patterns, using two colours and embellished with extra large buttons.

The beautiful agoya shell buttons were purchased online in the UK from a supplier with the largest range of unique buttons that I have ever seen, a bit like delving into granny’s button box - it’s full of treasures.

The seed stitch edging is worked in a contrasting colour to match the extra large decorative buttons. The bold directional cable pattern is easy to knit. The cowl is knitted flat on a circular needle, a narrow band of colour on the short ends is created when you bind off the knitting. This gives a neat and more tailored look to the finished item.

The cowl is finished by overlapping the short ends and sewing together.

Before sewing on the buttons you can firm up the button band if using heavy buttons with sew in interfacing concealed between the two short ends of the cowl. The yarn used comes in lovely bright and neutral colours, gives good stitch definition and blocks extremely well.
