Urchin Shell crocheted square
I often pick up a crochet hook and some yarn with a vague idea in my head. I start to crochet and see what happens. I call this crochet doodling. This time starting with a circle and ending with a square, I have called this Urchin Shell because the centre reminds me of an old urchin shell my mother used to have as an ornament.
The photo illustrates the square made with Sirdar Hayfield Spirit double knitting weight yarn and a 4.00mm crochet hook. It measures approximately 8 inches/21cm square. The measurement will depend on your tension/gauge, thickness of yarn and size of hook used. Use your favourite yarn and appropriate hook size.
Materials
The photographs illustrate this square made with double knitting weight yarn and a 4.00mm hook. It takes approximately 83 yards of yarn to make each square.
For this pattern any thickness of yarn can be used with the appropriately sized hook.
Measurements
Using double knitting weight yarn and a 4.00mm hook the square measures approximately 19cm/7 ¾ inches.
