Utazó Shawl
Utazó is a Hungarian word meaning “traveler.” I chose the name for this pattern in honor of my Hungarian Great Grandmother, who was a fellow yarn crafter.
I wanted a shawl that would be a great wardrobe piece for traveling. Something that looks great worn as a scarf, but also can be draped over the shoulders or the lap on chilly airplanes or buses. Tiny tassel details and a striking color add a little spice! The Utazó Shawl is also a great pattern to KNIT while traveling, with a simple repeating motif and few extra tools needed.
Utazó is a wide, shallow triangle shape, which starts with just a few cast on stitches and increases simultaneously at the sides and center spine. Repeats can be easily modified to make a larger or smaller finished piece. It is helpful to the overall shaping of the shawl if you keep your selvedge stitches (first two stitches of each row) nice and loose.
Gauge and exact yarn weight are not crucial to this pattern and one size will fit most adults.
