Yarn Requirements: I used about 90 yards of the BC Garn Semilla, (Light Grey), and 60 yards of the MadelineTosh Merino Light, (Tart).

Finished measurements:
16”/40.5 cm unstretched at brim, stretches to 20”/51 cm
7.5”/19cm tall, excluding pom pom

The V is for Valentine Hat incorporates simple colourwork into a warm and adorable little beanie for your sweetheart(s). Of course hearts make us think of Valentine’s Day, but this hat will be a welcome gift for your favourite little ones any time of year.

For my base yarn I used BC Garn Semilla, an organic wool yarn that is one of my go-tos for children’s hats. It’s organic, it’s soft, and it’s just the right amount of rustic. It’s listed as a DK weight yarn, but I find it to be more of a heavy fingering weight. For the hearts I used MadelineTosh Merino Light, defying the “rule” that says you can’t mix yarns in colourwork --I guess I’m just a rebel that way. I like the juxtaposition between the rustic BC Garn Semilla and the slightly more elegant and smooth MadelineTosh Merino Light.

I chose to top my hat with a two-colour pom pom because it seemed like the fun thing to do. The pom pom is optional and you could also do it one colour if that’s your preference.
