This blanket can be made into any size, for a baby blanket i use 84 stitches as a chain, for an adult version you would use more, as long as the chain is an even number it should work fine. (Please note the number of chains needed could change depending on the yarn you use.) Any chunky yarn works great for this blanket, any size hook 5mm or higher would be fine also.
