Measles outbreaks are surging across the U.S., with over 317 confirmed cases in Texas and New Mexico alone. Whooping cough (pertussis) cases have quadrupled, reaching over 16,000 cases in 2024. These preventable diseases are making a comeback—not due to some natural resurgence, but because misinformation and anti-vaccine rhetoric have led people to reject basic public health measures.

Vaccines don’t cause autism. They don’t contain microchips. They don’t rewrite DNA. While minor side effects are normal, vaccines significantly reduce preventable deaths and improve public health outcomes. In short, vaccines help ensure more people live long enough to become adults.

This interlocking crochet square is a statement against pseudoscience and a reminder that public health isn’t just an individual choice—it’s a collective responsibility.

Sizing & Gauge:

Gauge is not important for this project. This pattern follows my standard interlocking crochet square size of 26x26 “windows,” so it will fit with my other patterns if you want to join them somehow in the future:

Worsted weight yarn with a 5mm hook results in a 12x12 inch square.

DK weight yarn with a 4mm hook results in an 8x8 inch square.
Your final size may vary depending on tension and yarn choice, but the design will still work.
