A cute hat with ear flaps and a textured stitch pattern on a stockinette (stocking stitch) background. Vaccinium is the botanical genus of many wild berries (blueberries, huckleberries, lingonberries…), and the stitch pattern is reminiscent of small berries. The hat is knitted from the bottom up. Crown decreases are hidden in the “berries”.

The hat works particularly well in the baby and toddler sizes, with a round DK/light worsted yarn (eg. superwash merino). Tonal or speckled yarns look good.

The ear flaps use short rows. An easy-to-stitch lateral braid (Vikkel braid) decorates the brim and helps it lie flat.
